Box Score ASTON, Pa. -- The Marymount University women's soccer team improved to 4-1 in Atlantic East Conference play in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Neumann University.
Laney Placido played the hero for Saints at Neumann's Turf Field with a 75th minute penalty kick. Emely Obregon earned the spot kick chance for MU after she was hauled down as she dashed towards goal. Placido calmly stepped up to the penalty spot shortly after and rifled the attempt into the top right corner.
Placido's marker was all the Blue and White needed, as their defense saw out the remainder of the contest. Outside of the penalty kick goal, the Saints tested Neumann's Marissa Waters in the 38th minute. Placido was once again at the forefront, as the junior fired a shot bound for the lower left corner. Her attempt was turned aside however, which set up the exciting finale.
While Neumann managed to out-shoot the Saints, 9-5, Grace Needham turned away all five attempts that came her way. Two of the sophomore's saves came in the 78th and 84th minutes to preserve MU's advantage.
Marymount wraps up the regular season on Tuesday, October 26, when it hosts Cabrini University at 7:00 p.m.
