Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's volleyball team avenged an early-season loss on Wednesday evening at the Converse Family Fieldhouse, taking down Bridgewater College in a 3-0 sweep.
The victory marked the 500th career win for Head Coach Beth Ann Wilson.
The Saints' offense was in rhythm from the start and maintained a .306 hitting percentage for the match. Junior Elissa Munsterman paced the team with 12 kills on a .267 clip, while freshman Maya Harris hit a blistering .429 for eight kills.
A mid-set rally in the first gave the Saints their cushion to take the early lead. Harris put down two kills and got up for a solo block to punctuate a 7-0 run for an 18-12 lead.
The Eagles cut the lead to three, 21-18, but kills from junior Kaitlyn Doyle and Munsterman helped close the set.
Doyle, senior Caylee Shelton, and Munsterman tallied three-straight kills to open the second frame and help the team take a 4-0 lead.
Despite the early edge, the Eagles kept the set close. With the score tied 20-20, Marymount ended up a 5-1 run to take the two-set lead.
Bridgewater looked to get back into the match with an 8-2 open to the third set. The Saints collected themselves, however, and kept the score close, and a block from sophomore Myia Jeter eventually tied the score, 15-15.
The teams battled through tight final moments, but Doyle and Munstman each added a kill in the final points to help secure the victory.
Doyle added 10 kills in the win, while sophomore Sydney Sands tallied 35 assists. Junior Sarah Pham paced the defense with 13 digs.
The Saints will return to the Converse Family Fieldhouse on Saturday, October 23 to host Atlantic East Conference-foe Marywood University and the University of Mary Washington in a tri-match. The Saints will open the day against the Pacers for a 2 p.m., bout.
