Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University men's soccer team suffered a tough-luck loss at the hands of Centenary University on Wednesday, as the Saints fell by a slim 1-0 margin at Long Bridge Park.
It was a physical contest throughout the 90 minutes, as Marymount searched to keep its unbeaten run alive in Atlantic East Conference action. The Saints dominated the ball for a majority of the tilt and ended the match with a 22-7 advantage in shots. MU also held the edge in corner kicks, 7-5.
Despite the Saints' control in the middle of the park, they were unable to find a way past Centenary's Andrew Tarkazikas, who tallied 10 saves. First-year talisman Leonardo Torres tested the netminder once in the first half and twice in the second, but was unable to find the back of the net.
MU matched its shot total from the first half with 11 in the second as the Saints pushed for an equalizer. The Cyclones' defense proved tough to crack, however. As time wound down, Marymount got one last chance via Kevin Cassinera. The sophomore sent a glancing header towards goal, but Tarkazikis smothered the effort to keep the Saints off of the board.
Brian Cruz got the start in goal for Marymount and played the full 90 minutes. Cassinera, Axel Gonzalez, and Manny Gaunaurd all finished with two shots on goal.
The Saints will look to bounce back in another important Atlantic East tilt on Saturday, October 23, when they host Neumann University at 1:00 p.m.
