Box Score HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- The Marymount University women's soccer team had a strong showing against Centenary University on Saturday afternoon, as the Saints opened Atlantic East Conference play with a 2-0 win.
The Saints scored their first goal just seven minutes into the contest. Sita Nair was responsible for the opener with her second goal of the season. Both sides had chances over the remainder of the first halftime, but Marymount entered the break with the lead with both teams tied at nine shots apiece. The Cyclones attempted two corner kicks compared to one for the Saints across the first 45 minutes.
The Cyclones upped the pressure in the second half with more corner kick chances, but the Saints defense stood tall. Centenary had a chance in the 53rd minute, but the Blue and White registered a team save to preserve their lead.
Laney Placido doubled Marymount's lead 15 minutes into the second half. Nair started the play with a pass that split Centenary's defenders. Placido collected the ball and fired home her attempt to give the game its final scoreline.
Freshman Grace Needham, got the start in her seventh game of the season for the Saints and amassed a season-high 13 saves.
The Saints are back at home for their next game against Catholic University on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:30 p.m.
