Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's soccer team defeated Immaculata University in Atlantic East Conference action on Saturday, 2-0, at Long Bridge Park.
After 85 minutes of scoreless play, the Saints broke through for two late goals to take the win.
At the 85:24 mark, freshman Emely Obregon ran down a ball on the right side and fought off two defenders to get into the box. She sent the ball from the right side of the box to sophomore Izabella Lopez who snuck the ball inside the left post.
Just over 30 seconds later, Lopez took a shot that was blocked. Graduate student Sita Nair was there to collect the rebound and ripped a shot from 25-yards out that sailed over the keeper and just under the crossbar to double the lead. The goal was her team-leading fifth on the season.
After only producing two shots in the first half, Marymount's offense put the pressure on the Mighty Mac defense in the second with 13 shots, to break through in the end. For the game, the Saints outshot the Mighty Macs 15-10.
Freshman Grace Needham made five saves to earn the clean sheet, playing all 90 minutes in goal.
With the win, the Saints improved their record to 3-1 in conference play, with all three wins being shutouts.
The Saints will host Washington (Md.) College in their next game on Wednesday, October 20. The match is set for 7 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
