WINCHESTER, Va. - The Marymount University tennis team earned the program's first-ever dual-match victory on Thursday evening at Shenandoah University, blanking the Hornets, 9-0.
In doubles play, the Saints earned 8-5 victories at all three spots. Freshmen Dorian Guiot and Nicolas Stromberg sealed the win in the No. 1 position, junior Ana Schneider-Jerez and freshman Brecht Chamuleau did the same in the No. 2 position, and senior Roncs Etame-Ese and freshman Neal Devkaran secured the 3-0 lead in the No. 3 spot.
The success carried into singles play, with Dorian leading the way at No. 1 Singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to start it off. He was followed with the same score in opposite sets at No. 2 Singles from Stromberg. At No. 3 and No. 4, Devkaran and Chamuleau each earned a clean set win of 6-0, while each finished it off in two sets as well.
At No. 5, Schneider-Jerez sealed up a two-set victory, 6-0, 6-1, and Etame-Ese closed it out at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-2 win to secure the 9-0 win.
The Saints will ride this momentum into another non-conference match this Saturday, March 7 at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Start time is set for 9 a.m.
