Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's basketball team closed out the regular season on Saturday afternoon with an 85-65 win over Marywood University at the Converse Family Fieldhouse on Senior Day.
The teams traded makes to start the game, with senior Ryan Albert hitting a three-pointer and a layup to give Marymount a 7-5 lead.
Play remained close, but the Pacers took a 17-13 lead with 12:49 left in the first half, and they would stay in front for the rest of the half.
Senior Ibrahim Kamara scored a layup to keep the Saints within three, 21-18, but a 10-4 run put the Pacers up by nine.
Marywood kept its lead, taking a 39-33 edge into halftime.
Albert and junior Steve Etienne, each, had seven points at the break to lead the team.
Etienne hit a layup to start the second half, before senior LaDarius McCord scored a jumper to get the score to 39-37.
Marymount continued to keep the score close through the beginning of the second half, before finding its stride with 11:48 to play.
Senior Taiga Walker and sophomore Roey Stern bookended a layup by McCord with three-pointers to lead an 8-0 run and tie the score, 54-54.
Stern continued to hold the hot hand, hitting a free throw, before draining another three to give the Saints their first lead of the second half, 58-54.
They would not look back, as another Stern three capped a 13-7 run to push the advantage to double digits, 71-61. Etienne scored three layups in the run, and continued to find success close to the basket to close the game.
Etienne tallied two more layups, before a three from McCord, to break the game open. Albert added another three before things were all said and done, as the Saints pulled away for the 20-point victory.
Etienne led the team with 20 points, on eight-of-nine shooting, and tied for a team-high eight rebounds. McCord tallied 17 points, with Stern and Albert scoring 13 and 12, respectively.
The Saints will now look forward to the Atlantic East Conference tournament next week. As the No. 3 seed, they will host a first-round game on Tuesday, February 25 at the Converse Family Fieldhouse against the winner of a tournament play-in game between Marywood and Neumann University.
