Saints slip on the road against Tigers

Box Score

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Marymount University men's soccer team continued its road trip on Saturday evening, as it traveled to Hampden-Sydney College, falling against the Tigers, 1-0, in a close contest.

The Tigers got off to a fast start as they had three opportunities at goal in the first 10 minutes of play. With only one of the shots on goal, freshman goalkeeper Eduardo Cardonne reeled in the Tigers' opportunity to keep the score tied, 0-0.

Marymount found its first chance on goal in the 35th minute when the ball left freshman Justin Meza's foot, but Tigers' goalkeeper, Ian Connor, was there to deny the opportunity.

Cardonne finished the first half with three saves, corralling all of the Tigers' shots on goal.

After the second-half whistle, a foul in the 52nd minute gave the Tigers a free-kick opportunity that they capitalized on, making the score 1-0.

For the remainder of the game, Hampden-Sydney's defense locked down Marymount's offensive threats, only allowing one more shot.

Cardonne finished the game with six saves on seven shots.

Marymount will hit the road again this Wednesday, September 25, as it travels to the University of Valley Forge; kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m
