ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's soccer team got its first Atlantic East Conference win of the season Saturday afternoon against Gwynedd Mercy University at Long Bridge Park, as senior Rodney Ngoh connected on an overtime header to seal the deal, 1-0.

The start of the match went back and forth, as neither team could find the back of the net, even in the 12th minute when the woodwork went in favor of the Saints to deny Gwynedd Mercy of an early 1-0 lead.

Marymount had its first strong opportunity on target in the 20th minute, as freshman Justin Meza was denied by a diving save by Griffin keeper Tyler Blair.

Just nine minutes later in the 29th, the Griffins had another chance to break the first-half tie, but sophomore goalkeeper Ronald Clark reeled in the save to keep the game scoreless.

Clark saved each of the two shots on goal in the first half, while the Saints led the Griffins, 11-7, in shots.

Similar to the first half, each team battled evenly in the second. Roughly 17 minutes after the second half whistle, junior Levis Lopez fired a shot from just outside the 18-yard box, but Blair was there for another save.

With neither team finding the back of the net in 90 minutes of play, the Saints were sent into their first overtime of the season.

Not even two minutes into the restart, freshman Derek Rivera caused a turnover on the Griffins backline, and with time and space crossed the ball to the head of Ngoh, who redirected the cross into the back of the net. The finish is Ngoh's fourth game-winning goal this season.

Clark was a perfect 4-for-4 in the net for all 92 minutes, marking his second clean sheet of his career.

Marymount continues league play this Wednesday, October 16, as it hosts Neumann University at Long Bridge Park; first touch is set for 7 p.m.
