ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's basketball team held Johns Hopkins University to six just points in the first and fourth quarter, helping the Saints earn their 10th win of the season on Wednesday night, 52-39. 

It was a slow start for both teams, seeing a total of 11 points on the scoreboard through the first quarter, as the Blue Jays (8-2) took the 6-5 edge into the next quarter. 

The Saints (10-4) found some momentum in the second, shooting 43.8 percent from the floor and dropping in 16 points led by junior Regan Lohr with six points. The scoring in the frame was well divided, seeing five different Saints register points. 

With a slight 21-19 lead at the half, Marymount didn't slow down in the third quarter, knocking in 17 points. Of the 17 points, junior Gabriella Haddad and freshman Katie McShea combined for 14, as the duo commanded the paint through much of the game. Haddad scored nine points in the third, while McShea added five. 

In the final quarter, the defense was the key factor for the Saints to solidify their first victory of 2019, causing seven Blue Jay turnovers, including four steals. On the other end of the court, McShea scored six points and Haddad and senior Tyffani McQueen chipped in four apiece. 

For the game, the Saint defense forced 24 turnovers by Johns Hopkins, while McShea and sophomore Aidan Phillips each posted game-high three steals. Haddad and McShea led the offense with 17 points apiece, while McShea pulled in a team-high eight rebounds. 

The Saints will look to contain this momentum, as they get back into Atlantic East Conference play on Saturday, January 5. The women will host Gwynedd Mercy University in the Converse Family Fieldhouse; tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
