WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Marymount University women's volleyball team opened up the two-day Worthington Classic at Gallaudet University on Friday afternoon, collecting two more victories with three-set sweeps of Lycoming College and Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham.

Match One: Marymount 3, Lycoming 0

The Saints came out gunning in set one, never trailing and coasting to a 25-15 decision. A quick 5-0 build up to start game one saw sophomore Mykael Johnson put down her first kill of a match-high eight while junior Theresa Buscemi added a service ace. Several other runs throughout the game eventually had senior Maggie Munro put the final two points on the board off kills to give MU a 1-0 lead in the match. 

Set two was a little slower start for Marymount, trailing 6-2 before igniting for a massive 13-point run, all of which Buscemi served for. In the stretch, Buscemi had two service aces while seven kills paced the way, led by sophomore Myah Cordrey with four. The 15-6 advantage for the Saints continued to build to an eventual double-digit lead at 20-10 when junior Miranda Cooksey dropped in her first kill of the match, and she added a few more later in the game including one of the two to end the set with freshman Caylee Shelton, 25-15.

Although the third game had Lycoming out in front at 2-1, another huge run for the Saints, this time 14 points, pushed Marymount out to a 15-2 lead that was more than enough to coast to an eventual 25-13 victory. In the stretch, senior Caroline Hanson commanded the serve with seven aces. Hanson's seven service aces in the match was just two shy of the match-high mark for the Atlantic East Conference this season, a statistic held by teammate sophomore Maggie Viniard who had nine against Lynchburg College earlier in the season in three sets. 

Behind Johnson's match-high eight kills, senior Emily Abramaitys and Cordrey added six apiece while Shelton chipped in five. Viniard finished with 24 assists to go along with eight digs, and Buscemi added a team-high 13 digs. 

Match Two: Marymount 3, FDU-Florham 0

Led by a match-high 11 kills by Cordrey, the Saints (14-2) put together a .347 kill percentage in the final match of the day, including a .467 in the second set. With Viniard dishing out another match high in assists with 38, she found seven different teammates for kills. Munro and Hanson registered eight apiece, while Shelton and Johnson added seven more each. 

Buscemi remained consistent on the defensive end with a match-high 10 digs, and sophomore Jasmine Roy and Hanson dove out for five each as well. 

The Saints round out the classic on Saturday, September 29, opening the day against Elmira College at 10 a.m. Pending the result against the Soaring Eagles will decide who Marymount plays in its final match at 2 p.m.
