Women's Volleyball Splits Trimatch At Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. - The Marymount University women's volleyball team split in its trimatch on Saturday afternoon, falling to Atlantic East Conference foe Cabrini University, 3-1, before bouncing back into the win column with a straight-sets victory over Keystone College. 

Match 1: Cabrini 3, Marymount 1

In a battle of the final two remaining undefeated teams in the Atlantic East, the conference Match of the Week went in favor of the Cavaliers, taking a 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22) decision. 

The first set proved how close the match was, as the game was all knotted up at 20-20 late. However, the tight score moved toward Cabrini to close out game one, 25-23. 

Marymount bounced back in set two, coasting to a 25-16 victory to draw the match even. The Saints never trailed in the set, building up to as much as a 10-point advantage after an 11-1 run spread out the lead. 

The final two sets were battles throughout, but the Cavaliers held out for a 25-21 and 25-22 finish in the respective games to take the 3-1 victory. 

Marymount was paced by two double-double efforts by senior Caroline Hanson and sophomore Maggie Viniard. Hanson finishe dwith a team-high 15 kills to go along with 13 digs, while Viniard send out a match-high 40 assists and dove out for 15 digs. 

Junior Theresa Buscemi, on the defensive side, registered a team-high 16 digs, while Hanson and junior Miranda Cooksey tallied four block assists apiece as the Saints registered 18 blocks in the match. 

Match 2: Marymount 3, Keystone 0

The Saints (22-4) bounced back quickly in the next match, rolling past Keystone, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-16). 

Sophomore Ayanna Moore led an offense that laid down 36 kills with eight of her own on a .500 kill percentage. Freshman Caylee Shelton came in behind her with seven kills. 

Viniard and junior Alana Ball split time at the setter position, as Viniard finished with 13 assists and Ball added 10. Sophomore Jasmine Roy dove out for a match-high 14 digs, and senior Maggie Munro added a match-high four block assists. 

The Saints remain in the Philadelphia area on Sunday, October 21, as they take on Neumann University in a key Atlantic East matchup. Still in search of the final first-round bye spot in the postseason, the two squads sit tied in second in the conference standings with both of their only losses to Cabrini. Start time is set for 12 p.m.
