Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - After dropping its opening match on the second day of the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational, the Marymount women's volleyball team rallied to win the fourth and fifth sets in a thrilling victory over host Virginia Wesleyan at the Batten Center.
Errors plaqued the Saints (3-1) in their four-set loss to St. Catherine as they totaled a season-high 32 attack errors and 10 reception errors in a 25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22 defeat.
Against Virginia Wesleyan, Marymount overcame 22 errors and a .178 hitting percentage over the first three sets to post 20 kills and a .259 hitting percentage in the final two as it rallied for a 17-25, 25-18, 26-28, 25-15, 15-7 victory.
Junior Caroline Hanson had back-to-back triple doubles for the second-straight day, averaging 15.0 kills, 18.0 assists and 12.0 digs. She totaled12 kills, 14 assists and 12 digs against St. Catherine before totaling a career-high 18 kills to go along with 22 assists and 12 digs versus Virginia Wesleyan.
Freshman Ayanna Moore had 23 kills on the day, including a career-high 12 against St. Catherine. She has now posted at least 10 kills in each of the first three matches of her career.
After two seven-kill performances yesterday, freshman Myah Cordrey had six kills in each of her matches today while not committing an error in 15 attempts against St. Catherine for a .400 hitting percentage. She then added three digs and three total blocks versus Virginia Wesleyan.
In the opener against St. Catherine, junior Emily Abramaitys totaled 11 kills and 15 digs, both career highs, before adding 10 kills versus Virginia Welseyan.
Defensively, junior Theresa Buscemi totaled 38 digs over the two matches, including a season-high 20 against Virginia Wesleyan, her sixth career match with at least 20 digs. Junior Celine Nguyen posted the second and third double-digit dig totals of her career with 10 and a career-high 17, respectively, while freshman Jasmine Roy totaled a career-high 17 digs against Virginia Wesleyan in her fourth collegiate appearance.
Marymount returns to action on Friday, September 8 when it travels to Boston, Massachusetts for the New England Invitational hosted by UMass Boston. The Saints face the host Beacons at 5:00 p.m., before taking on Minnesota Morris at 7:00 p.m.
