Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - It didn't take long for Marymount women's volleyball junior Caroline Hanson to regain her form from a year ago as she totaled back-to-back triple doubles as the Saints opened the 2017 season with sweeps of Cabrini and Benedictine on Friday at the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational.
Marymount (2-0) has now won 27 of its last 36 matches dating back to last season following a 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 victory over Cabrini and a 26-24, 25-15, 25-23 win over Benedictine.
Hanson, who finished last season ranked sixth in Division III with four triple doubles, averaged 13.5 kills, 16.5 assists and 14.5 digs in both victories on Friday. She began the day with a career 15 kills, 17 assists and 13 digs against the Cavaliers before adding 12 kills, 16 assists and 16 digs versus the Eagles.
The Saints also received a strong performance from junior Emily Abramaitys who totaled 14 kills and 15 digs in the victories. She totaled a career-high seven kills in both matches while totaling a career-high 10 digs against Benedictine.
Abramaitys was joined by freshman Myah Cordrey who made her collegiate debut by totaling seven kills in each match while finishing the day with seven total blocks. Freshman Ayanna Moore also made the most of her first appearance in a Marymount uniform, posting 10 kills versus the Eagles.
Senior Christy Tieman began her final season with 26 assists and 13 digs against Cabrini before adding 20 assists against Benedictine. Meanwhile, sophomore Theresa Buscemi led the defense, totaling 19 digs in the opener before adding 15 more in the nightcap.
Marymount will conclude its participation in the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday when it faces St. Catherine at 10:00 a.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m., contest against the host Marlins.
