Men's basketball seals up fourth seed in CAC tournament with victory over Lions

Box Score

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's basketball team solidified the fourth seed in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Penn State University-Harrisburg, 66-53, to earn home-court advantage in the first round next week.

Behind a game-high 18 points by senior Michael Anderson and another double-double effort by junior Dimitri Rucker with 12 points and 12 rebounds, the Saints battled back from an early deficit in the first half to take a 34-26 advantage into the locker room.

Trailing by as much as eight with 7:39 remaining in the first 20 minutes, Marymount built up a 12-2 run to overtake the lead at 26-24. In the stretch, Anderson rattled off eight points including a long ball and an and-one, until his jumper gave MU the lead at 3:25.

The Lions cut the run with a jumper to draw it back even, but on the other end, Rucker completed an and-one of his own to spark an eight-point run to end the first half. Capping off the scoring for the half was Anderson and freshman Chauncey Pittman with two-point finishes.

Junior Alex Danko kicked off the restart with a three-pointer to pick up the momentum where the Saints left it at the break. Marymount continued build its advantage as the second half went along, getting the lead up to 16 points by the 11:27 mark when Anderson dropped in two free throws.

Penn State looked for its opportunities to get back within striking distance, but consistency on the offensive end for Marymount kept the advantage at a distance, as the Saints rolled to the 66-53 decision.

Beyond Anderson and Rucker's offensive days, sophomore Brandon Rogers added 12 points.

The Saints will now return home to open the CAC tournament, hosting fifth-seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland on Tuesday, February 21. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m., in the Verizon Sports Arena.
