Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Marymount women's volleyball freshman Maggie Viniard totaled a career-high 29 assists to go along with seven digs while the Saints posted their third-highest hitting percentage of the season en route to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-12 nonconference victory Washington College Wednesday night inside Cain Athletic Center.

Marymount (8-8) won its third match out of the last five by committing just 14 attack errors, its second fewest of the season. The team had only nine in its season opening win versus Cabrini.

Sophomore Miranda Cooksey continued her stellar play of late as she had seven kills, a .462 hitting percentage and three total blocks. Since moving into the starting lineup at Randolph-Macon, she has totaled 28 kills, an average of 1.64 per set, and a .377 hitting percentage in six matches.

Freshman Myah Cordrey had seven kills against the Shorewomen (13-6) and over her last eight matches, has totaled 55 kills, an average of 2.50 per set, while posting a .288 hitting percentage.

Five Saints had at least five kills on Wednesday. Freshman Alexa Marcum added eight to go along with five digs while freshman Mykael Johnson had five kills.

The first set featured 12 ties, but after Washington took its largest lead at 15-12, Marymount used an 8-0 run to to take a 23-17 lead with all eight points involving Abramaitys. Her kill started the rally before she served for seven consecutive points.

There were seven ties in the second set, the last coming at 10-10, before a 10-2 run by the Saints gave them an eight-point advantage, their largest of the set, 20-12. Helped by three Marymount errors, the Shorewomen were able to pull within four at 21-17, but that would be as close as they would get as the Saints scored the final four points, including two on a kill and service ace from Cordrey.

The third set was all Marymount as the visitors jumped out to a 6-2 lead before they closed the match by scoring 11 of the final 13 points.

The Saints now face three matches over the next three days away from home beginning on Friday night when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg for a CAC contest beginning at 7 p.m.
