Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Marymount women's soccer season came to a close on Wednesday night, falling to No. 8 Christopher Newport University on the road, 7-0.
The defense for the Saints and junior goalkeeper Sydney Sherman were put to work in this one, seeing 38 shots throughout the match, while Sherman collected a career-high 14 saves in her 90 minutes of work.
The Captains, who sealed up the CAC Regular-Season Title and top seed in the postseason tournament, got off three early attempts before the fourth went into the back of the net in the eighth minute.
Off the restart, Marymount tried to answer with sophomore Makayla Dulac firing off a long shot on target, but CNU keeper Carly Maglio pulled in her first of five saves for the night.
Sherman collected seven saves through the first half, but the Captains pulled ahead with a 3-0 lead by the break.
CNU added its fourth in the opening two minutes of the restart before sophomore Karen Reyes fired off her first shot of two on target. Reyes got another off late in the second half, while junior Madison Grehawick ripped two of her own toward Maglio.
By the final horn, the Captains built up their advantage to 7-0 to take the final match of the regular season.
The women conclude the 2017 season 2-12-2 overall, 1-8-0 in CAC play.
