Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – An early second half goal by junior Mynor Danilo Lopez drew the score even against the Capital Athletic Conference leader Christopher Newport University, but the Captains rattled off two more to take the 3-1 decision to seal up the Regular-Season Title and bring the Saints' season to a close.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Valcicak had a great night in the net, collecting a career-high 14 saves, 11 of which were in the first half alone to keep the Saints within striking distance. Through the first 45 minutes, just one goal was surrendered by Valcicak and the MU backline off of 19 attempts, while the Saint offense failed to produce a single shot.
The momentum swung quickly in the second half, however, when Marymount earned its first attempt. A deflected shot by junior Andre Ferguson rolled back to freshman Levi Lopez who took a rip himself. The shot attempt also deflected off a Captain defender and right to the feet inside the left side of the 18-yard box to Mynor Lopez. Collecting the ball and attacking the left side, the junior forward fired off a low right shot to find the back of the net and draw the score even at 1-1.
Unfortunately, the Captains answered 10 minutes later with a goal off a bent corner kick to reclaim the lead, and later solidified the victory in the 62nd minute with the third and final goal.
The Saints conclude the 2017 season 4-14 overall, 2-7 in league play.
