Dominating performance by Saints shows career day for several

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – Another strong performance by the Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team showed five different Saints scoring in double figures in route to a 28-point victory, 74-46, over St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday afternoon to open Capital Athletic Conference play with an unblemished 2-0 record.

Several career marks were met in the Saints' second-straight win as sophomore Abby Fisher registered a career-high 13 points, and junior Leah Hurst picked off a career-high seven steals, a tally that was also a game-high. Hurst's 5.7 assists per game ranks atop the league and her 3.2 steals ranks third. Junior Nicole Viscuso notched her second-straight double-double with game highs in points and rebounds with 16 and 10, respectively. The forward now has 10 double-doubles in her career, as she averages 14 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to rank in the top eight in the CAC in both categories.

An eight-point start for the Saints quickly drew the first Seahawk timeout, and MU never looked back from there. Although St. Mary's would remain in striking distance by the end of the first quarter, 19-11, the Saints continued to push the momentum and build the advantage to a comfortable 42-25 lead at the half. At halftime, Viscuso and sophomore Tyffani McQueen already had double figures with 10 points apiece, while Hurst had four steals.

Not much would change in the final two quarters, as MU outscored the Seahawks, 32-21, to seal up the 74-46 victory.

Controlling the entire box score, the Saints shot 43.3 percent from the floor, building up their largest lead of 29 with 1:20 left in the game. More impressively, Marymount commanded the glass all game, pulling down 44 boards compared to the 26 by the Seahawks. Of the 44 rebounds, 18 were offensive which translated to 20 second-chance points.

Beyond the career days by several Saints, McQueen finished with 12 points while freshman Regan Lohr added 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

The women continue at home on Wednesday, December 7 in another CAC matchup, as they host Southern Virginia University. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., in the Verizon Sports Arena.
