FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference postseason run for the fourth-seeded Marymount (Va.) University women's volleyball team came to an end on Thursday night, falling to top-seeded and No. 15 University of Mary Washington, 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-18).

Set one needed extra points to decide, but the extended game fell to the Eagles, 26-24. The Saints built up some early momentum with the first three points of the match, eventually stretching to a 6-2 lead. From there, the Eagles would creep back into the set to keep the remainder of the game within three points either way. A service error late by the Eagles gave MU a 24-23 lead, but Mary Washington followed up with three-straight points to take the set and an early 1-0 advantage in the match.

Although the Saints fell in game one, they still bolstered an impressive .417 kill percentage over the .326 posted by Mary Washington.

The final two sets remained close for much of the first half of play, before the Eagles caught some momentum to take both to seal up the match.

The Saints were led by an eight-kill night by senior Emileigh Rettig, while senior Cailyn Thomas and sophomore Caroline Hanson added seven apiece. On the defensive end, freshman libero Theresa Buscemi dove out for 12 digs, and junior Margaret McAlpin notched a match-high four block assists.

The women will now wait to hear about further play in the postseason with a bid into the ECAC tournament. Be sure to check out www.marymountsaints.com for more information as it becomes available.
