Box Score

ARLINGTON Va.— Junior Leah Hurst led the Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team in a late rally over Washington and Lee University on Saturday night in the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Championship, as the Saints battled for a 60-54 victory to claim the tournament title.

Hurst, who finished a team-high 14 points, five assists, three steals, and three rebounds, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while senior Kiki Laux earned a spot on the All-Tournament team with her efforts in the two-day tournament.

The Saints trailed early in the game before freshman Regan Lohr knocked down a three-point jumper to put MU on the board. The Generals remained hot on the offensive end giving them a 10-5 advantage at the six-minute mark in the first quarter.

The Generals continued a three-point barrage getting out to a 17-12 lead with 2:05 remaining in the first, but strong inside play by sophomore Nicole Viscuso and Hurst helped the Saints remain close after falling behind 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Laux got the Saints offense started with a short jumper to begin the second quarter, and Hurst added five quick points to cut the deficit to four, 25-21. The Saints pushed on with the momentum in their favor and great inside play by freshman Leann Loch. A quick steal and bucket by sophomore Tyffani McQueen tied the game at 27 apiece.

The Generals ended the half with on a 9-4 run, leaving the Saints down 35-31 at the break. Marymount was led by its guards Hurst, Lohr and McQueen who combined for 18 of the 31 points scored by the Saints in the half.

The Saints tied the game on a layup by Viscuso four minutes into the second half. Able to gain the momentum with four minutes left in the third, the Saints snagged back-to-back offensive rebounds and a three-pointer from sophomore Abby Fisher to draw the score even at 41-41. The Saints gained their first lead of the night after a layup by freshman Lauryn Stouffer, but by the final break the Saints still trailed by one, 46-45.

Lohr opened up the fourth with a layup to give the Saints a one-point advantage. Lohr continued to have the hot hand extending the Saints lead out to three with eight to go in regulation. The momentum shifted back-and-forth throughout final quarter until Hurst knocked down consecutive layups to boost the Saints and regain the lead. Hurst continued to dominate on offense notching another basket, helping the Saints piece together an 8-0 run to go ahead 57-51 with 1:02 remaining on the clock.

Marymount would hold out to take the 60-54 victory over the Generals.

Fantastic play by Hurst, who had 14 points, and Viscuso, who added 12, paced the Saints on the offensive end.

The Saints take the road for their next contest, traveling up to Stevenson University on Sunday, November 27 for a non-conference tilt. Tip off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
