Wilson becomes CAC winningest volleyball coach; Saints cruise past Lions in three-set sweep

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va.— Head Coach Beth Ann Wilson of the Marymount (Va.) University women's volleyball team officially became the winningest volleyball coach in Capital Athletic Conference history on Friday night, as the Saints cruised past Penn State University-Harrisburg, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 15-10) to remain untouched in league play.

Wilson surpassed the previous Head Coach of Salisbury University, Margie Knight, after notching her 406th career victory.

The Saints got off to a convincing start in set one, taking a 17-9 lead after a 3-0 run, to force a Lions timeout. The timeout failed to slow down the Saints, as they rolled past the Lions, 25-14, to take set one.

Set two proved to be an intense battle between both squads. The momentum shifted back-and-forth after reaching 12 ties and five lead changes before the Saints prevailed on top, 25-22.

Marymount picked the pace back up in set three, jumping to a 3-0 lead. MU reached an eight-point advantage to force a PSU timeout. The Saints continued to roll, piecing together a 7-1 run to force a second timeout before finishing out the match, 25-10.

Senior Cailyn Thomas led the Saints on offense, registering a match-high seven kills. The offense was well spread throughout the match with eight different Saints contributing to the total of 38 kills. Setting up the offense once again was junior Christine Tieman and sophomore Caroline Hanson who each added 15 and 11 assists, respectively. Freshman Theresa Buscemi led the Saints on defense, notching a team-high 11 digs.

The women will continue CAC play at home on Saturday afternoon, October 8, hosting York College of Pennsylvania for Alumni Day. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
