ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.— The Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team continued Capital Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon in a road matchup against St. Mary's College of Maryland falling short, 4-1, to move to 6-5 for the season. 

The Saints' defense was put to work early in the matchup. Senior goalkeeper April Westmark turned away five shots before St. Mary's Emily Huey struck in the 19th minute. Westmark stopped one more attempt before the Seahawks were able to find the back of the net a few minutes later. A corner kick from Gillian Sawyer set the stage, allowing Jenna Pastel to finish on a shot to the right corner of the goal.

Marymount's defense kept St. Mary's off of the scoreboard for the remainder of the half. MU fired off three shots of its own before heading to halftime, trailing 2-0. 

Emily Huey and Gillian Sawyer scored back-to-back goals in the 57th and 60th minute, respectively, to give a 4-0 cushion for the Seahawks, but the Saints didn't give up. 

MU picked up the pace on offense, firing off two more shots before freshman Karen Reyes blew past the keeper with just over 14 minutes left in regulation. Reyes picked up her fifth goal of the season and her career. Junior Sydney Schultz spent 45 minutes in the cage, notching three saves in the second half. 

The women will head back to the field on Wednesday, October 12, as they host CAC opponent Salisbury University. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
