Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday evening, dropping a 5-0 decision to Christopher Newport University in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup at Long Bridge Park.
The Captains' offense, which has been performing at a high level all season in league play, put the pressure on the Saints' backline and junior goalkeeper Sydney Schultz early and often in the match. Although MU held strong, including a save by Schultz, CNU would eventually strike by the 26th minute.
The Saints continued to remain in their half of the field for much of the first half, unable to get a clean shot off through the first 45 minutes, while the Captains added two more finishes before the break to take a 3-0 advantage into the half.
At the restart, Schultz was able to maintain the Captains' offense for several minutes with a trio of saves. On the other end, the Saints managed to get their first shot off of the match from the foot of freshman Karen Reyes, unfortunately deflected out of contention by a defensive player.
By the 54th minute, CNU added its fourth goal and tacked on the final one with three minutes left in the game to take the 5-0 decision.
The Saints will look to conclude their season on a high note on Monday, October 31, as they travel across the Potomac River to Gallaudet University for a makeup game that was rained out earlier in the year. First touch is set for 6 p.m.
