Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – Freshman Vicente Luna Rivera teamed up with sophomore Brandon Orozco in heroic fashion to head in the game-winning finish over five minutes into overtime to seal up a 1-0 victory over Southern Virginia University on Wednesday night.
The first 90 minutes played out as a scoreless draw between the two squads, with freshman John Valcicak having another strong match in net with seven saves. The draw through regulation pushed the match to extra time, where the Saints took the early advantage.
Although the Knights earned the first shot in overtime, sophomore Chris Cardenas answered on the other end with a ripped shot that soared just left. It wasn't even a minute later that the game winner found the back of the net.
Orozco, with the ball down the right side line, beat the defender to find an opening on the end line to send across an opportunity in front of the net. A hard-liner crossed into the box was connected on at the back post by Rivera for the redirected header into the right side of the net.
With the goal, the Saints sealed up its second shutout of the season, while earning their first Capital Athletic Conference victory.
The men hit the road for the remainder of the regular-season schedule, taking on Frostburg State University on Saturday, October 22 for their next match. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
