Box Score YORK, Pa. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's soccer team fell on the road on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-0 decision to York College of Pennsylvania in Capital Athletic Conference play.
Struggling to find offense in the first half, the Saints held strong in the back half of the field for much of the opening 45 minutes, including senior goalkeeper Franklin Garcia who made his first collegiate start in goal.
Garcia saw just one shot on target in the half, registering his first save, while the backline led by sophomores Rodney Ngoh, Jesse Parada, Jose Ormeno, and Tommy Orozco and freshman Michael Ku-Dipietro gave up just five shots total for the half.
One of those shots, although, made it past the gloves of Garcia in the 34th minute to put the Spartans up 1-0. An unassisted attempt at the top of the 18-yard box soared over the hands of Garcia and into the back of the net.
The Saints had their best chance of the half right before the break, when sophomore Andre Ferguson sent a corner kick into the middle of the box where it met the head of Tommy Orozco. The redirection though went just wide, as they went into the half trailing by one.
The second half was defensive for a chunk of the restart, but the Spartans were able to put away two more in the final 15 minutes of the match to seal up a 3-0 decision.
The Saints are back in action on Wednesday, October 5, as they host Wesley College at Long Bridge Park for another conference tilt. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
