Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's soccer team made a stop back home for a non-conference matchup against Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday night before heading off to another tournament this upcoming weekend, falling to a 2-0 decision at Long Bridge Park.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out early in the match, scoring both goals in the opening eight minutes. Finding the back of the net off a deflected second shot in the third minute, Randolph-Macon tacked on the second in the eighth minute off a corner-to-header finish between Jackets' Logan McHugh and Jacob McHugh.
The two goals were split with an attempt by freshman Andre Ferguson to try and draw the score even at a goal apiece, but Jackets' goalkeeper Brian Breslin hauled it in on the shot.
Senior goalkeeper Logan Cropper locked down the backline for the rest of the first half and into the final 45 minutes, turning away three shots on target. But the offense for the Saints couldn't manage to blast one past Breslin, including another attempt late in the first half by freshman Stefano Agostini.
Following a 40-minute lightning delay, the Saints continued to figure out the offensive attack in the second half. By the 59th minute, junior Ahmed El-manialawy saw a great shot on goal once again get pulled in by the Jackets' keeper to keep the score at 2-0. El-manialawy had the final attempt on target later in the game but was unsuccessful, as the final result held at 2-0 in favor of Randolph-Macon.
The men will look to jump back into the win column this weekend in Fayetteville, North Carolina for the Soccer Kicks Cancer – MU Invitational, hosted by Methodist University. The two-day tournament starts on Saturday, September 12 with the Saints matching up against North Carolina Wesleyan College at 3:30 p.m.
