Box Score Newport News, Va. – The Marymount men's basketball team suffered an 80-62 road decision at the hands of Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Saints fall to 18-5 on the season and 12-4 in CAC action.
Three Saints scored in double-figures on the day, with Antonio Rouse posting a team-best 13 points. Colin Burkhart chipped in 11, while JC Hoellich registered ten points and ten rebounds for his team-leading eighth double-double of the season.
The difference came largely from beyond the arc, with the Captains shooting an impressive 46.7% (14-for-30) from long range compared to the Saints' 25.0% (3-for-12).
The host took control from the get-go, using a 17-2 run spanning about four minutes to take a 27-11 lead by the 12:42 mark. The large gap persisted right up to the intermission as the Captains penned a 15-point advantage, 50-35, to close out the half.
The second half proved much of the same, with the Saints unable to cut the deficit. Christopher Newport continued its romp toward the finish line, never letting Marymount within 12 points the rest of the way.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Salisbury in its final home game of the regular season. Tip time is set for 8 p.m.
