Women's basketball extends win streak to four with dominating performance

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team cruised to a 62-30 victory on Monday night against Shenandoah University, moving its win streak to four games as it heads into the holiday break.

Defense was the Saints (7-2) game through the first half, holding the Hornets to just eight points through the first 20 minutes. Through the first two quarters, the blue and white forced 14 turnovers including eight steals.

The scoring followed in suit with the defense, closing out the first quarter with a 16-5 score, led by senior Miranda Krott and sophomore Nicole Viscuso with five and four points, respectively. The duo's presence in the paint was crucial in the game as both finished in double digits in points along with team-leading rebound totals. For the game, Krott finished with a game-high 13 points and eight rebounds to go along with three steals and two blocks. Viscuso kept her streak of double-digit scoring alive with 10 points while pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds to notch her fourth double-double of the season.

Taking a 29-8 lead into the second half, not a whole lot changed for the Saints as the scoring continued. The third quarter remained competitive with the Hornets drawing even with a 12-12 score through a 10-minute span. But the fourth quarter was all the Saints, outscoring Shenandoah, 21-10, behind senior Destiny Welch's six points. Welch's six points came off back-to-back three pointers.

Freshman Tyffani McQueen also reached double figures in the game with 10 points, dropping in two long balls as well. McQueen led the squad in steals for the game with four. Sophomore Leah Hurst controlled the court with a tied career-high eight assists along with seven rebounds and three steals. Senior Kievanna Lacey finished with eight points, seven rebounds and two steals to add to the depth of success for the Saints on Monday night.

For the game, the Saints shot 43.1 percent from the field (25-for-58), while dropping in 42.9 percent from behind the arc (6-for-14). The blue and white dominated the glass, pulling down 45 boards compared to the 18 by the Hornets.

The women will now take two weeks to prepare for a Capital Athletic Conference matchup to close out 2015 on December 30. The Saints will travel to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a 4 p.m., tipoff.
