Box Score ARLINGTON, Va.—The Marymount (Va.) University men's soccer team hosted Christopher Newport University for senior day on Wednesday evening in a crucial Capital Athletic Conference tilt, as the Captains scored a late goal for the 1-0 decision in a night that had difficult weather conditions.
The first half ended scoreless after a hard fought battle from both teams. Marymount took advantage of four shots on goal. Freshmen Brandon Orozco and Marc Mendoza fired off two shots on goal each to keep the pressure on Christopher Newport, while senior Logan Cropper scooped up seven saves to keep the Captains out of the net.
Cropper and the Saints' defense would keep the Captains out of the net until late in the second half, but in the 80th minute, CNU found the opportunity it was looking for off the foot of Mark Brewington. Carrying the ball down the right side, Brewington ripped a shot that just deflected off a Saints' defenders leg redirecting into the back of the net.
Cropper tallied three saves in the second half before Brewington landed the game winner. Marymount had two opportunities to score in the half off shots from freshmen Andre Ferguson and Chris Cardenas.
The Saints recognized seniors Cropper, Carlos Salas, Oscar Pacheco, and Carlos Sanchez at the half. Cropper spent over 4000 minutes in the goal tallying 263 saves, good for a .739 save percentage. Pacheco was a three-year member of the Saints playing as a midfielder. Salas started in 22 of his 32 appearances where he fired off seven shots and racked up an assist. Sanchez started in all 50 of his appearances where he took 19 shots on target and finished with a goal and assist.
The men conclude the regular season with a 7-9-1 record overall, 3-5-1 in the conference.
