Eagles Soar Past Women's Basketball

Box Score

Fredericksburg, Va. – Despite total domination on the boards, the Marymount women's basketball squad dropped a low-scoring CAC tilt at Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon.  Both teams struggled to maintain any consistency in terms of scoring, though the Eagles proved more fortunate as the game progressed, downing the Saints 47-37 when all was said and done.

Marymount falls to 7-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference action.

The host jumped on top immediately, gaining the initial possession and registering the game's first bucket on a second-chance effort.  From there the Eagles built up a 9-0 run – a rally that was eventually spoiled by a Kievanna Lacey layup at the 15:08 mark.

Even with the Saints finally on the board, Mary Washington held a firm advantage for the duration of the half – up by as much as 13 and not once letting the visitors within seven.  At the break, the Eagles owned a 25-17 lead and almost uncontested control of the CAC battle.

The second half saw the basket-for-basket exchange continue, with Mary Washington not once relinquishing its game-long lead.  The Saints snapped a two-minute scoring drought to claw within six, 27-21, at the 15:41 mark – courtesy of a Miranda Krott layup.

The six-point gap would persist as the teams exchanged shots over the next five minutes, but eventually the Eagles found fortitude enough to put the Saints away.  A pair of free throws from Claire Haeuptle gave the host a ten-point advantage, 35-25, with 9:19 showing.  Marymount would not come within seven the rest of the way.

The Saints completely dominated the boards, hauling in 53 rebounds to the Eagles 33.  Krott and Dominque Dickens held firm underneath the basket, collecting a game-high eight boards apiece in the effort.

Krott and freshman Leah Hurst combined for over half the Saints' total offense, as Hurst poured in a team-high 11 to Krott's ten-point performance.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to York (Pa.) for another CAC rendezvous.  Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
