Box Score 4 Bethlehem, Pa. – Marymount University's women's volleyball team rang in its 2014 campaign with an exclamation point, posting a perfect record and collecting tournament honors at the Moravian College Greyhound Premiere this weekend.
After sweeping its matches on Friday, downing Ramapo 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 16-14) and tackling Ursinus 3-1 (no set scores available), Marymount earned a spot competing in the championship bracket on Saturday.
The Saints downed Moravian 3-1 (no set scores available) in the opening match on Saturday before taking on CAC foe York (Pa.) in their second and final contest of the day. The Blue and White handled the Spartans 3-1 (no set scores available) to remain undefeated both in championship play and on the weekend.
Morgan McAlpin was named the Tournament MVP after hitting .305 for weekend and posting a team-leading 11 blocks. On Saturday, McAlpin delivered 19 kills with only a pair of errors.
Emileigh Rettig garnered All-Tournament honors after posting three double-doubles and recording an impressive 31 digs against York in the finale. Rettig also led the team with 3.3 kills/set and a tournament team-high 18 kills against Moravian.
Erin Allison also poured in a solid effort for the Saints this weekend, notching three double-doubles in addition to her match-best hitting performance against York. Allison smacked 17 kills – no errors – out of 29 attempts against the CAC rival Spartans in the tournament finale.
Hannah Steger led the team against Ramapo with 11 kills and no errors out of 18 swings, while Ashley Cabrera led the field with 87 assists and eight aces on the weekend.
Cailyn Thomas and Margaret McAlpin notched ten blocks each.
