Box Score Arlington, Va. – A very strong Southern Virginia squad proved Marymount's kryptonite on Wednesday night, handing the Saints their first CAC loss of the 2014 season. The Knights finished the Blue and White in four lengthy sets (24-26, 27-25, 22-25, 23-25) – the largest margin of victory being only three points.
The loss drops the Saints to 5-1 in CAC action and 23-7 overall.
Marymount could not seem to eclipse the paper-thin margins that haunted them throughout the night, though not for lack of momentum or timely points. Ball-handling errors, for instance, were almost non-existent in the explosive four-set battle.
Each set proved simply an extension of the last – a continuous point-for-point parley that consumed almost two hours.
Emileigh Rettig led the Saints with her eleventh double-double of the season, registering ten kills and 13 digs on the night.
Morgan McAlpin paced the Marymount offense with a match-high 16 kills – good to supplement teammate Erin Allison's match-high 16 digs.
The Saints travel to Newport News, Va., this Saturday to face CAC foe Christopher Newport and Bethany (W.V.). The day's first match is slated for 1 p.m.
