Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought non-conference contest 81-66 to sixth-ranked Amherst on Friday night. The Saints falls to 3-8 overall on the season.

Four Saints scored in double-figures with Reed Scott, Antonio Rouse and Garrett Snoops each tallying a dozen points each. Jesse Kondau added 11 in the loss.

Scott also notched his fifth double-double of the season, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The opening 14 minutes of the game was close as the Saints kept pace with the sixth-ranked team in the nation. Keeping the Lord Jeffs (10-1) mostly within two-possessions, MU gave up a late 19-7 run by its guests the rest of the way in the frame to go into halftime down 42-25.

Unfazed, the Saints came out of the locker room fighting and slowly chipped away at their 17-point deficit. A pair of free throws by Snoops at the 14:40 mark pulled Marymount within single digits again at 46-37 and another freebie by Snoops with 11 minutes to play made it a two-possession game once again at 50-44.

Amherst would regain its 10-point lead but MU responded immediately. Marymount regained momentum on a monster putback dunk by John Magnani that helped an 8-1 run cut the Saints deficit to just three at 55-52 with 8:36 to play.

Trading baskets and keeping MU at bay, Amherst would eventually pull away with about six minutes remaining and close out the game on the free throw line.

Logan Buckner led the Lord Jeffs with 17 points off the bench. Aaron Toomey added 13, Allen Williamson had 12 and Willy Workman chipped in 10.
