Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference showdown 45-21 against rival Mary Washington on Monday night. The Saints and Eagles split their season series, winning on each other's home courts.

Seniors Maame Amponsah and Beth Wiggins led the Saints (9-7, 7-3 CAC) with eight points each. Amponsah continued her impressive season on the boards with a game-high 19 rebounds.

Marymount opened the game on an 8-1 start, holding UMW (14-5, 10-1 CAC) without a field goal for the first eight and half minutes of the first half. The Eagles then put together a 9-2 run of their own over the next five minutes to take their first lead at 11-10 at the 6:37 mark.

Retaking the lead on a Wiggins jumper, the Saints would go up by as many as four in the stanza before UMW retook the lead with three minutes to go. Neither squad would hit a field goal the rest of the half as the Eagles would take a 19-17 lead going in to the break.

Mary Washington nearly doubled its shooting in the second half and opened the frame on an 11-0 run over the first 10 minutes of play to put the game out of reach. 

Jenna McRae and Rachel Martin both had a game-high nine points for the Eagles in the win.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Salisbury in CAC play.
