Owings Mills, Md. – Marymount University's men's soccer team's 2010 season came to a close with a shootout decision in the First Round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday. The sixth-seeded Saints and host third-seed Stevenson played to a 1-1 draw through two overtimes before the Mustangs prevailed 4-3 in penalty kicks.

Both squads found themselves tied 3-3 after the first three rounds of the shootout. The Saints converted attempts by Nathan Blumenschein, Philippe Millogo and Kjell Crooke.

In the fourth frame, Marymount keeper William Brahmstedt stoned Stevenson's Matthew Liska to give the Saints the edge before the Mustangs substitute netminder Cory Spindler got a hand on Carlos Salinas' attempt to keep things on an even keel.

Coming down to the fifth round, SU converted its first attempt to force the Saints to make theirs or be eliminated. Mamadou Deme delivered a line drive up the middle but Spindler seemed to trip forward into the shot despite attempting to fade to his left to make the unexpected save for the win.

Marymount jumped on the board early to open the game in the third minute as Salinas collected an errant clear and beat Stevenson's starting keeper Ryan Flannelly left side for the quick 1-0 lead. The Mustangs would respond in the 30th minute, narrowly beating an offsides penalty to knot the score at 1-1.

Brahmstedt picked up five saves while Flannelly collected a pair.

Marymount closes out the season 8-8-3 overall and made the CAC Tournament for the 20th consecutive year.
