Rob Ferguson

Rob Ferguson enters his 11th season as the head women’s golf coach at Marymount in 2024-25. He has been the only head coach for a program that was initiated in 2014.

Ferguson boasts six conference coach of the year awards during his tenure. He was named the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year in 2021, 2022, and 2024 and was named the Atlantic East Coach of the Year in the fall of 2021, fall of 2022, and fall of 2023.

Since joining the Centennial Conference as an associate member in 2017-18, Marymount women’s golf has made its presence felt. The Saints have won five Centennial Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, five Player of the Year awards, three Rookie of the Year awards, and had 10 All-Conference selections. Additionally, he has placed eight Saints on the Academic All-Centennial Team (First Team All-Conference and Academic Honor Roll selection).

In five seasons of Atlantic East competition, 25 Saints have been named All-Conference, including 19 First-Team selections. Marymount has won the Atlantic East Golfer of the Year award all five seasons and the Rookie of the Year four times.

The 2023-24 season saw Marymount win titles in both the Atlantic East (fall) and Centennial (spring) to qualify for its third NCAA Tournament in four seasons. Hunter Gillis was named Player of the Year in both conferences and earned a spot on the Academic All-Centennial squad. Gillis has now been named All-Centennial four times and Player of the Year twice. Kate Parsons also earned a spot on the All-Centennial Team for the second year in a row.

During the 2022-23 season, the Saints won their fourth straight Atlantic East championship to close out the fall slate of competition. The team won seven different events throughout the year with a strong lineup from top to bottom. After weather cancelled the first day of the Centennial Conference Championship prior to the round's completion, Marymount ended up finishing second behind champion Gettysburg by four strokes.

On the academic side, Phuong Le brought home the Atlantic East Elite 20 Award while Hunter Gillis was named the Centennial Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. As a group, Marymount women's golf secured the Atlantic East Team Academic Award for holding the highest GPA in the conference.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Ferguson led the Saints to a second straight appearance in the NCAA Championships after winning a second straight Centennial title. Marymount also won the Atlantic East championship in the fall for the third straight time.

Beyond his coaching for MU, Ferguson has also spent the last 30-plus years as the Teaching Professional at the Washington Golf and Country Club, a prestigious course that borders the campus.

Prior to taking the helm of the new program, he coached at The Potomac School in McLean, Va. In his four seasons guiding the program, his teams won the MAC Championship twice.

A member of the Professional Golf Association, Ferguson has quite a lengthy playing career. Winning more than 50 Pro-Ams and Section events, he appeared in the 1994 Kemper Open, which is a PGA Tour event, and the National Club Professional Championships three times.

As a PGA professional, he has been honored by the Middle-Atlantic section of the PGA of America with two prestigious awards: The Youth Player Development Award in 1992 and the Assistant Professional of the Year in 2003.
