Marymount University

Mike Clark has been the head coach for the men's and women'sswim teams since 1991. During his tenure, both the men and women'steams have set every team record in school history. Both teams havefinished as high as second in the Capital Athletic Conference andconsistently finish in the top half at the conferencechampionships. Numerous MU swimmers have won all conference honors.Clark has been named CAC Coach of the Year three times.

Coach Clark's philosophy in guiding the team is to provide apositive and enthusiastic swimming experience that enhances eachathlete's overall college experience by encouraging physical,mental and moral development. Clark's other goals for the programinclude: creating and developing strong interpersonal relationshipsamong team members; creating an environment that encourages eachstudent-athlete to identify goals and the tasks associated withtheir achievement; and teaching the necessary life skills to insurefuture success.

"Our swimming results -- best times, conference championships,NCAA qualifying times, all conference honors are a measure of howwell we accomplish the above goals."

Prior to coming to Marymount, Clark was an assistant swim coachfor two years at James Madison University. He is a 1984 graduate ofJMU, where he served as team captain for two years and was the teamrecord holder in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, the 400 IM anda member of the 400 Medley Relay. Clark was the only swimmer in theJMU history to receive the Most Valuable Swimmer award threeconsecutive years. Clark also was a senior national qualifier inthe 200 breaststroke.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Clark supervisesseveral other programs at Marymount including the Masters swimprogram, a developmental level program for pre-competitive swimmersand the Marymount swim school.

Clark lives in Manassas, Virginia with his wife Theresa and theirthree children Chris, Ashley and Brian.
