Lizzy Nicholas joins the Marymount Athletics staff ahead of the 2026-27 academic year after earning her Master of Science in Athletic Training from James Madison University in spring 2026. She previously earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science and a minor in Pre-Athletic Training from JMU in 2024.
Nicholas brings a diverse clinical background to the Saints, gaining experience across a variety of sports and patient populations during her time at James Madison. She most recently worked with the Dukes’ women’s cross country program, where she educated student-athletes on proper fueling and developed rehabilitation plans for bone stress injuries. During her clinical immersion with JMU baseball, Nicholas assisted with insurance coordination, emergency department preparation and pre-participation examinations while also mentoring undergraduate athletic training students and teaching rehabilitation techniques.
Her additional clinical experiences included working with women’s soccer, cheerleading, women’s swimming and diving, and men’s and women’s tennis. Nicholas gained experience evaluating acute and chronic injuries, developing rehabilitation programs, utilizing soft-tissue massage techniques, and supporting GPS and athlete-load management systems.
Nicholas also brings international experience to Marymount after spending the summer of 2023 with Prahran Football Club in Melbourne, Australia. While working with the Australian Rules Football team, she assisted with athlete care and provided taping and manual therapies before and after practices and competitions.
Beyond her clinical work, Nicholas served as an executive officer for the Madison Athletic Training Student Association, where she helped manage finances, coordinate merchandise orders and develop social media content. She has also served as a patient mentor with Sinai Hospital’s Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, supporting patients through shared experiences and helping raise funds for the Save-A-Limb Foundation.
Nicholas is a Board of Certification-certified athletic trainer and member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. She also holds First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor and Professional Rescuer certifications through the American Red Cross, along with additional training in cultural humility, safe-space practices and suicide prevention.
