Leigh Murray-Winstead

Leigh Murray-Winstead enters her second full season as the head softball coach at Marymount for the 2026 season. She took over on an interim basis in March 2024 before earning the job in June 2024. 

She earned the promotion after being an assistant coach at Marymount since the program's inception in 2022. 

In her second season as head coach, Murray-Winstead led the Saints to their first ever Atlantic East Conference Championship title. The team competed in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournamnet. Under her leadership, five players were awarded first-team recognition and three were honored with second-team recognition. Kaylynn Johnson was awarded with Second Team All-Region V recognition by the NFCA. 

In Marymount’s first season of softball, Murray-Winstead coached four All-Conference selections and one NFCA All-Region honoree (Samantha Cinotti). Cinotti also earned a place on the VaSID All-State Second Team.

Murray-Winstead brings a wealth of experience to the Saints' dugout. She served as the head coach at Washington & Lee High School from 2016-19 and was the assistant coach in 2015. Murray-Winstead also served as the Head Softball Coach from the Diamond Division of the Arlington Girls Softball Association from 2016-19. Currently, she is a head coach in the Pixie League of the organization and acts as the league's Assistant Commissioner. 

A native of Fairfax, Va., Murray-Winstead was a standout at W.T. Woodson High School before playing at Penn State from 2001-2006. She was a two-time team captain and guided the team to four NCAA Regional appearances. 

Off the field, she serves as the Deputy Director and Clinical Professor at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School.
