He arrives after the completion of his Master of Science in Athletic Training at James Madison University in May 2026. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from JMU, where his undergraduate research focused on gym intimidation among college students.
During his time at James Madison, Flanagan gained extensive clinical experience working with a variety of student-athletes and patient populations. Flanagan also completed clinical rotations with JMU ROTC and the University Health Center, where he provided medical coverage for tactical athletes and supported the university population through concussion evaluations, rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols. His clinical experience also included coverage of club wrestling, rugby and gymnastics, as well as the evaluation and rehabilitation of approximately 100 athletes from various sport backgrounds.
Beyond his clinical work, Flanagan served as Events Chair for the Madison Athletic Training Student Association and previously served as president of the JMU Wrestling Club. He has also coached flag football since 2016 and participated in concussion education initiatives for high school students through JMU's Valley Scholars program.
