Coach Vergara is in his 4th season with the Marymount coaching staff after joining during the inaugural 2022-23 season.
Prior to joining the college ranks, he was a head coach at 2 separate programs including Lightridge HS (Aldie, VA) and Bishop Denis J. O'Connell HS (Arlington, VA). He was the first head at Lightridge during the school's grand opening in 2020. He and his staff laid a strong foundation along with the school's very first state medalist in any sport ever. While at Bishop O'Connell, he produced 15 state medalists with 10 of them being National Prep qualifiers. In a span of 4 seasons, he overhauled the level of competition, streamlined operations, and strengthened the budget for the program. Vergara also operated a club that provided opportunities for local wrestlers to meet and train under dozens of NCAA Champions, All-Americans, World Team members, clinicians, and college coaches.
In addition to his roles as a head coach, he served as an assistant at Gunston Wrestling Club, Thomas Edison HS (Alexandria, VA), and St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School (Alexandria, VA). During his 4 years with Edison HS, the program produced 6 state medalists, including 2 state champions. While at SSSAS, they produced 9 state medalists, including 6 National Prep qualifiers over the course of 2 years.
Coach Vergara currently resides in Alexandria with his wife and 2 children. He holds an M.Ed. from Marymount and a B.A. from Longwood University.
