Max McNeill

Max McNeill enters his fourth full season at Marymount, continuing to strengthen the university’s successful cross country and track & field programs.

McNeill led the Saints to a breakthrough in 2024, capturing the women’s Atlantic East Conference title after two consecutive runner-up seasons. The Saints’ NCAA DIII South Regional berth was accompanied by three major Atlantic East Conference awards, earned by standouts Avery Finnegan and Brier Amerlinck.

In track & field, McNeill was instrumental in guiding the women’s team to its third consecutive Atlantic East Conference championship, earning the coaching staff AEC Coaching Staff of the Year honors. With a focus on the distance squad, three of his athletes earned All-Conference recognition, including Brier Amerlinck and Abby Hughes.

In addition to his role at Marymount, McNeill brings his expertise to Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington. Over the past three years, he has played a key role in elevating the school’s distance program. Notable achievements include the boys' first Northern Regional appearance in six years and all-state finishes by both the boys’ and girls’ 4x800m relays. McNeill also guided Therese Johansson and Emmett Engelhardt to multiple all-state honors, with Engelhardt earning a runner-up finish in the 1600m at the VHSL Class 6 State Championships.

McNeill came to Marymount after a successful career at Oklahoma City University. He was a leader on both the cross country and track & field programs, where he secured eight NAIA All-American honors and two national championship cross country team wins in his four years there. This set him up for his still-active post-collegiate career, which includes competitive racing in both cross country and marathons. His personal bests include a 2:18.55 marathon, 66:00 half marathon and 49:01 10 mile.

McNeill is a cornerstone of the Northern Virginia running community, known for his athlete-focused approach to program development.
