ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount University men's tennis, in its first full season as an NCAA program, brought home the 2022 Atlantic East Conference championship with a 6-0 victory over Neumann on Friday afternoon.
The Saints had their inaugural season in 2019-20 cut down to just two dual matches and one invitational tournament due to COVID-19 cancelling the majority of the season. COVID also disrupted the 2020-21 season, meaning that this season was the first full slate of competition for the Marymount men's tennis program.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- At #1 doubles, Michael Miller and Dorian Guiot cruised to an 8-0 victory.
- Lwazi Enno-Rennert and Emmanuel Achu dug deep to pull out an 8-4 win at #3 doubles to give the Saints a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
- Miller and Guiot left no doubt in their singles matches, only dropping one set between the two to clinch the title early.
- Nicolas Stromberg rounded out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Vince Landis.
- Miller was named Tournament MVP while Emmanuel Achu earned the Atlantic East Elite 20 Award for holding the highest GPA among competitors at the conference championship.
