OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Marymount University men's tennis team took on Stevenson University in a dual match on Tuesday, falling to the Mustangs in a close contest, 5-4.
Despite beginning the match in a 2-0 hole, Marymount able to fight back to win four of the final seven points. The Saints earned wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles, led by sophomore Nicolas Stromberg, with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Ben Porto at the No. 1 spot.
Freshman Michael Miller continued the strong start to his career, adding another singles win, 6-2, 7-5, and sophomore Dorian Guiot picked up the third win, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
Stromberg and Miller also combined for the Saints' win in doubles play, taking down Porto and Larry Johnson III 8-7 (10-0).
The Saints will return to action on Friday, October 1 at the University of Mary Washington for the first day of the ITA South/Southeast Regional.
