ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's swimming team opened its season on Saturday at the Lee Center Pool, falling to Salisbury University, 141-90.
The Saints had a strong day in the relays, taking first in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. To start the day, sophomores Trevor Cairns, Dylan Prophet, Jaiden Lugo, and Jake Wornom won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.60.
Lugo, Wornom, sophomore Coulter Afflerbach, and junior Dezi Vereen, then, took gold in the 200 free relay in 1:36.63.
Cairns and Prophet led the way with an individual first-place finish, each. Cairns was first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.22. He, also, added second-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.12) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.00).
Prophet placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.33. He added second-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.43) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.46).
Wornom and Lugo, each, added two second-place finishes.
Wornom took the silver in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles in 23.71 seconds and 54.56 seconds, respectively.
Lugo was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.86 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.16.
Marymount will return to action on Friday, October 22nd in a double-dual meet at the University of Mary Washington with Mary Washington and Southern Virginia University. The start is set for 5:30 p.m.
