Saints fall to Seahawks in season opener

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Marymount University men's swimming team opened its 2018-19 season on Saturday at St. Mary's College of Maryland, falling by a slight deficit, 96-94.

Senior Isaiah Jones led the Saints on the day with two first-place finishes. He took the gold in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.53 seconds, before grabbing the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.10 seconds.

Sophomore Max Klemm and Noel Lopez also notched first-place finishes. Klemm took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.97), while Lopez grabbed gold in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.33).

Klemm added a second-place finish to his day in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.63 seconds.

Lopez placed in the 50-yard freestyle, as well, taking third in 23.04 seconds.

Senior Ian Griffith tallied two second-place finishes in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.08) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.55 seconds).

Overall, Marymount notched seven individual second-place finishes.

Sophomore Gabriel Loring added two of them, taking silver in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle with times of 6:06.91 and 13:19.47, respectively.

The final two were tallied by juniors Nicholas DiSanti and Tedd Pham. DiSanti placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.09), and Pham took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.46).

The duo also placed third in events, as DiSanti finished the 100-yard freestyle in 52.70 seconds and Pham finished the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.18.

Marymount began the day with second in the 200-yard medley relay, as Klemm, Pham, Griffith, and Jones teamed to finish in 1:41.79.

The team capped the meet with second and third in the 200-yard free relay. DiSanti, Lopez, junior Scott Bockisch and sophomore Ryan Straka grabbed silver in 1:37.03. Loring teamed with juniors James Powers and Matthew Landivar and sophomore Brandon Hallahan for third in 1:48.10.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday, November 3 in their first home meet and conference meet, hosting Atlantic East Conference-foe Immaculata University; the meet is set for 2 p.m.
