ARLINGTON, Va.—The Marymount (Va.) University men and women's swimming teams conquered Salisbury University in a Capital Athletic Conference meet on Saturday afternoon, moving the men to 4-1 for the season and the women to 3-2.
Men's Team
The men's squad pushed past the Sea Gulls, 137-120, and opened with a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay after seniors William Bryan and James Gibbons, sophomore Isaiah Jones and freshman Zachary Payne combined to touch the wall at 3:39.15.
Payne continued to perform well on the day, nabbing a first-place finish in the 200-yard free (1:52.46). Bryan picked up a top-place finish in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:01.01, whole Jones touched the wall at 49.94 to take first in the 100-yard free. Gibbons took first in the 100-yard fly (54.10) to add ten points to the board.
Sophomore Ian Griffith notched a first-place finish in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:05.27, and senior Tyler Hayes touched the wall at 21.95 to grab a top-place finish in the 50-yard free.
The men rounded out the meet with a top finish in the 400-yard free relay at a time of 3:22.61. Bryan, Jones, Hayes, and sophomore Trey Brown combined their efforts to get the win.
Women's Team
The women's squad dominated the competition in a 155-107 victory over the Sea Gulls. Senior Kassidy Schmidt, junior Morgan Alston, and freshmen Hayley Elizondo and Jessie Bricker notched a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (4:12.27) to open the meet.
Elizondo also pieced together a fantastic performance adding 27 points to the board with a top-place finish in the 100- and 200-yard breast, and 200-yard IM after touching the wall at 1:10.69, 2:34.11 and 2:14.23, in that order.
Alston continued her impressive performance by notching a first-place finish in the 100-yard back (1:01.63) and the 100-yard fly (1:01.69). Sophomore Taylor Plumley touched the wall at 11:39.33, eight seconds ahead of the next swimmer to notch a first-place finish in the 1000-yard free. Sophomore Claire Cassidy earned a first-place in the 200-yard fly after touching the wall at 2:24.53.
The blue and white will host a dual meet again on Friday, January 20 against Division I Howard University. First race is set for 6 p.m., in the Rose Bente Lee Center.
