Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's swimming team split a Capital Athletic Conference double dual meet to close out the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday. The Saints topped Frostburg State 146-42 while falling 117-65 to Mary Washington.
Marymount (2-7, 1-4 CAC) claimed two overall victories on the day as Matt Essig won the 400 IM and William Bryan finished first in the 100 breaststroke.
Essig and Bryan teamed with Robert Klazynski and Tyler Hayes to open the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Joseph Gardner then placed third in the 200 freestyle before Bryan and Hayes placed second and third, respectively, in the 50 freestyle.
The Saints posted a 1-3 finish in the 400 IM with Essig winning the event and Klazynski placing third. Klazynski followed up with another third place performance in the 100 butterfly.
Gardner added another third place finish, this time in the 200 freestyle, before Essig claimed second in the 100 backstroke. Collin Chartier kept the medalist honors rolling with a third place shoring in the 500 freestyle before Bryan closed out the individual events with his victory in the 100 breaststroke.
Closing out the meet, Matt Ward, James Gibbons, Joseph Paris and Chartier finished third in the 200 freestyle relay.
Marymount returns to action at the CAC Championships, hosted by St. Mary's (Md.) beginning on February 21st in St. Mary's City, Md.
