Washington, D.C. – Marymount University's men's swimming team defeated Division I foe Howard 97-95 to earn its first victory of the season on Saturday. The Saints improve to 1-6 on the season.
Opening the meet with victory in the 400 medley relay, the team of Matt Essig, Will Bryan, Robert Klazynski and James Gibbons posted a time of 3:44.19 to claim victory. Collin Chartier and Dennis D'Abbraccio then went 2-3 in the 1000 freestyle before D'Abbraccio claimed a second place showing in the 200 freestyle.
Marymount won the next event as Tyler Hayes topped the 50 freestyle in 23:58 with Matt Ward finishing just behind him in 23.96 to place third. Joseph Gardner and Klazynski then followed that up with a 2-3 performance in the 200 IM.
The Saints dominated the 100 butterfly as Klazynski, Joe Paris and Gardner swept the event 1-2-3. Hayes then placed second in the 100 freestyle before MU posted 2-3 finishes in each of the 100 backstroke, 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke events.
Marymount closed out the meet with a second place showing in the 200 freestyle relay from Hayes, Ward, Bryan and Chartier.
The Saints return to action as they close out the regular season against Capital Athletic Conference foes Frostburg State and Mary Washington on Saturday in the home finale at 2 p.m.
